Yaozo Matsumi Gallery of the Reader Collection of Japanese Flower-and-Bird Art

Yaozō started his artistic career as an illustrator and later made woodblock prints. More than ten of his prints included flowers or birds. Nineteen examples are shown below. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Yaozō typically drew his picture subjects in a true-to-life way but sometimes he simplified their surface details (e.g., picture 5) or colors (e.g., picture 16).
